Video in the link. People with money like to keep people without money uneducated so that they can’t see that the policies that they promote (through Fox news, obviously, but also through most corporate controlled media outlets)
One out of every five people in Arkansas lacks health insurance coverage. However, today over 1,500 uninsured Arkansans received health care at a free clinic hosted by Communities Are Responding Everyday (CARE) at the Statehouse Convention Center in Little Rock, which was made possible in part because of calls for donations by MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann. A wide variety of medical services, including physicals and screenings for such conditions as high blood pressure and high cholesterol, were provided at the clinic. The Arkansas Times spoke both to volunteers and people waiting to receive care. Several of the volunteers expressed their enthusiasm to help their fellow community members, while at the same time feeling “ashamed” to be in a country where health care is still a privilege:
MAN: Well I came to get health. I do have diabetes and I haven’t been able to get healthcare since I lost my last job. And I am a student so it’s been a little difficult to get a full time job where I can get benefits.[…] I haven’t seen a doctor probably in three or four years. […] I thank all of the volunteers.
WOMAN: I got laid off in 2008 and since I haven’t had insurance […]
MAN: I don’t make really enough money to pay bills and have healthcare also. This is a good opportunity for me. And I haven’t really had a check up or anything in more years than I’d like to admit. […] I’m really thankful.
(I’ve just finished giving a guy his pizza when he notices my car in the driveway.)
Customer: “That your car?”
Me: “Yes, it is. You like it?”
Customer: “Yeah! Mind if I go look at it?”
Me: “Sure. I’ll show you around it.”
(We get there and he studies the decals in my window. I have an “Obama ‘08″ button on the back of my headrest.)
Customer: *gasps* “Are you a terrorist?”
Me: “What?”
Customer: “Don’t play dumb with me! You’re a terrorist!”
Me: “What are you talking about?!”
Customer: “You’re a terrorist and you voted for a terrorist for president!”
Me: “Sir, I can assure you that our president is not a terrorist.”
Customer: “But he is! He’s not American! He’s an illegal immigrant!”
Me: “Sir, why would we have an illegal immigrant terrorist as president if the government were on his side?”
Customer: *gasps again* “You’re right! Everyone’s a terrorist!”
Me: “No, no, no! They’re not terrorists!”
Customer: “You’re on their side?! Don’t kill me!”
Me: *giving up* “Yes, I’m a terrorist.”
(The customer screams and runs inside. A few moments later, the pizza falls out a second story window.)
Talk about irony! This guy is pretending that Newsweek’s cover is sexist and in the same sentence makes a sexist comment (it may be open to debate whether it’s sexist or not, but if your standard for sexism includes a picture of Palin in shorts, it logically must include this comment) about Hillary Clinton.
MILLER: Listen, Sarah, I have to ask you. This Newsweek cover. First off, I have two thoughts on this. To me it seems blatantly sexist and secondly I’m just glad they didn’t decide to do it with Hillary during the primaries. But your thoughts on it. You a little POed at this? I mean this was for another magazine, right? What a maroon! The word moron isn’t exactly strong enough for this guy…
Wow.
Photographer Seeks Closeted Military Personnel
Photographer Jeff Sheng is seeking as many participants as possible for a new photo project:
“Jess, Bend, Oregon, 2009” is part of my newest photography project, “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” a series of photographs of closeted men and women in the United States military. For each image, I have asked the individual to wear their uniform, while staging the photoshoot in the bedroom or local hotel room where that person is currently stationed. The reason for this is that I am most interested in the intersections between public and private space, and the government’s policing of our private spaces – the bedroom being the most representative space of this. I have purposely shot each image in a way that obscures to some degree the identity of the individuals, and the final image that is released to the public is first approved by the subject, and is in many ways, their expression of their closeted-ness and lack of identity. The name and location is also fictional: I have asked the subject to give me a first name and a location that is significant to them, but does not actually refer to the true name and location of who is in the photograph. My aim in this project is to use photography to create a visual record of the numerous individuals currently serving our country that are unjustly forced to hide an integral part of who they are.”You can contact Sheng via his website.
Remember kid, these folks are NOT terrorists. I repeat, NOT terrorists. *wink wink*KKK Rally At Ole Miss: Klan Outnumbered By Protesters
(Can’t imagine why these guys aren’t taken more seriously, can you? Look at those bath robes; they SCREAM “legitimate and intelligent ideologues.”)
Glad to see that their very presence was protested. I honestly can’t comprehend these peoples’ thoughts.
Yup, these people aren’t terrorists, but our president is! -winks back-
